Vibration pumping units will carry out a tremendous amount of hard, often “dirty” work for summer residents and owners of private houses. The compact water pump "Trickle" pumps water from an open or underground source, "throws" it from the drive to the irrigation points, and helps to clean the bottom of the well.

You must admit that such an extensive front of work is possible for a few devices. Despite the popularity and many years of operating the Brook, few are familiar with its design features. Not everyone imagines in which situations this device is simply indispensable, how to properly connect and use it.

We are pleased to share complete information about the points you are interested in. Here you will find a detailed overview of the characteristics and technical capabilities of the device. The information in the article is supplemented by photo collections and video guides.

The principle of operation and device

The trickle pump is one of the most popular vibration type pumps. The central part of the construction of this unit is a membrane. When the pump is turned on, it is attracted and repelled by the electromagnetic coil integrated in the pump.

Oscillatory movements of the membrane create a pressure difference in the pump casing, which allows water to be moved to a sufficiently high height.

The trickle is submersible pump, that is, to work it must be lowered on a cable into the water. The device is relatively small, weighs only 4 kg. The performance of the standard model is usually estimated at 450 l / h.

Technically, the pump is designed for pumping clean water, so the product warranty does not cover damage caused by operation in difficult conditions.

Pump Brook
The trickle pump has compact dimensions, low weight and performance, which is able to provide water to one or two points of water intake at the same time.

Across the sturdy metal casing of the pump, a special rubber ring is installed. It protects the casing of the well from shock during immersion or removal of the device.

To suspend the pump, you can use a nylon cord or a sufficiently strong cord, since the weight of the unit is small. Of course, you should securely fasten the cable to the twine so that it does not fall into the well.

Modern models of the “Trickle” pump are equipped with a special sensor. It determines the temperature of the device, and turns off the device when it reaches critical values. Most often, such situations arise if, for some reason, the pump is outside the water column.

Protection against the so-called “dry running” prevents equipment breakdowns and extends its life.

Technical parameters of the “Trickle” pump:

  • pumped water temperature - no more than 35 ° C;
  • power - 150-270 watts, so its operation will not increase the overall cost of electricity too much;
  • immersion depth - within 40-60 m;
  • average performance - about 7 l / min.

It should be remembered that the deeper the pump is suspended, the lower its performance. If the pump is only one meter or less submerged, it can pump water at a speed of 1,500 l / h.

The performance of the unit is quite modest. Residents of the house will have to turn on the water intake points in turn: first wash the dishes, then take a shower, then turn on the washing machine. For all the needs at once, the performance of the Brook may not be enough.

For work with sea water “The brook is not intended.

Connection and operating rules

Before, how to install a pump “Trickle” in well or wella number of preparatory activities should be completed. To begin with, it is precisely determined at what exact depth the pump will be suspended. Store yourself with a cord or rope of suitable length and provide a place for the cable to be fixed during pump operation.

Pump data sheet Brook
Each pump "Trickle" is equipped with a technical passport. Before starting the installation of the device, the manufacturer's recommendations should be carefully studied and applied.

The cord must be strong enough to withstand a load five times the weight of suspended equipment. In the case of “Brook” we are talking about about twenty kilograms.

Do not neglect this point, because a pump that has fallen into the well can be a real disaster. And to get the equipment that has broken off from the well is not the greatest pleasure.

It is not recommended to suspend vibration equipment on a metal cable, since such structures are poorly combined with the vibration effect that occurs during operation of the unit.

To partially dampen the vibration, the pump is attached to the cord on the suspension made of durable and flexible rubber, a piece of which also needs to be stocked in advance.

Kapron cord for pump Brook
To suspend the trickle pump, use a strong nylon cord that can withstand five times the load. If the length of the complete cord is not enough, you need to purchase a new one, extension of the cord is unacceptable

Another necessary element is a hose through which water will flow upward. Its length should correspond to the immersion depth of the pump, and the diameter of the hose should fit the pump nozzle.

However, there are adapters that allow you to attach a hose of a larger or smaller diameter to the nozzle. The end of the hose on the nozzle or on the adapter should be fixed with a hose clamp, unless otherwise provided.

If the use of a hose for some reason is undesirable or inconvenient, you can use a flexible water pipe made of plastic. It also needs to be securely fixed to the pipe with a clamp. If all materials have been prepared and the nuances taken into account, you can proceed to install the pump.

To do this, you need to perform a number of simple steps:

  1. Unpack the “Trickle” pump, straighten the power cable.
  2. Attach a nylon cord with a rubber adapter to the eye on its case.
  3. Attach a hose or water supply pipe to the pump outlet.
  4. Put a special protective filter on the water intake hole.
  5. Gently and smoothly lower the pump into the well or well.
  6. Fasten the nylon cord.
  7. Connect the pump to the power supply.
  8. Press the power button and check the operation of the device.

When buying a Trickle pump, you should immediately specify the length of the power cable with which the product is equipped. The standard model can be equipped with a cable length of 10, 15, 25 or 40 m, this affects the cost of the device.

If the wire length is not enough, the problem can be solved in one of two ways.

Pump Cable
The cable length of the Trickle pump can be 10, 15, 25, or 40 meters. It’s best to immediately purchase a device with a cable of sufficient length

The first is to completely replace the pump cable with a new wire of suitable length. To perform this operation, the pump will have to be disassembled and then reassembled. Sometimes it’s easier to build up a cable - attach a rather long piece to an existing wire.

The cable connection should be carefully insulated and protected with a special heat-shrink sleeve. Complete cable replacement is more reliable since the part of the wire immersed in water remains intact.

But cable extension is a less time-consuming procedure. After the pump is lowered into the water, you should inspect the resulting system and make sure that the load falls on the nylon cord, and not on the cable or hose.

Shrink sleeve
If a decision has been made to increase the electrical cable of the Trickle pump, a special heat-shrink sleeve should be used to protect the joint

Both the cable and the hose should hang down freely, remaining in a loose state. However, excessive sagging of the cable should not be allowed, since during the lowering and raising of the pump it can become confused, and this will create additional problems.

Proper use of the pump allows you to increase its life and trouble-free operation. The manufacturer indicates the time of continuous operation of the pump no more than 12 hours.

Pump installation diagram Brook
This diagram illustrates the installation procedure of the “Trickle” pump, depending on the model, which can be with a lower or upper water intake

After that, the device should be turned off so that it cools down. Manufacturers also recommend taking small breaks every two hours of operation. Such a gentle operating mode will positively affect the life of the device.

When hanging the device, it should be remembered that it should be located about 0.5-1 meter from the sandy bottom, otherwise it can simply be pulled into sand or a layer of silt.

Main advantages and disadvantages

The popularity of the “Trickle” submersible pump is simply explained: at a relatively low price, this device has a fairly high quality. But this is not his only advantage. The trickle is exceptionally easy to operate. It needs to be specially configured in some way, just press the power button and it will start working.

Pump device Brook
This diagram shows the components of the trickle pump. In the event of a breakdown, the device is not difficult to disassemble and repair (+)

The simple design of the pump ensures its exceptional maintainability. When breakdown pump It is not difficult to disassemble, repair or replace damaged components, and then reassemble. All components necessary for repair are usually commercially available.

The next “plus” of this pump is a wide range of tasks that can be solved with its help. Not only clean water, but also some contaminated liquids are pumped with a “brook”, although this reduces its service life.

The disadvantages of the pump "Trickle" include the nature of its work. Continuous vibration exposure can adversely affect the condition of the filter well. Vibrations destroy the layer of sand, which increases the speed of sanding the well and can completely disable the structure.

A deep well extracting water from fractured limestone is not afraid of vibration, but the Trickle is not designed to digest water from such a great depth. Therefore, pumps of this type are not suitable for continuous sand well work. However for water intake from the well such equipment can be a real find.

Homemade vibrator filter
If you use a vibration pump to drain the basement or pump water from an open source, it is desirable to protect its intake part. At least with such a homemade filter from a plastic bottle

"Brook" for all occasions

A relatively shallow well with a low flow rate or a well with similar characteristics is best equipped with a Ruchek pump or another budget model. More powerful and expensive equipment is simply not needed here. It will empty the well too quickly, the risk of a dry run in this situation is very high.

The product data sheet says that the pump is intended only for the digestion of clean water. However, over the decades of the model's existence, owners of private houses and summer cottages have found this device the most diverse application. For example, this model is widely used in pumping wells.

Characteristics of the pump
This table shows the main characteristics of the pump "Trickle", thanks to which this unit is able to cope with the solution of many economic problems

At the end of the drilling of such structures, the water remains heavily contaminated with particles of silt, sand, etc. To obtain potable clean water, this mixture must be performed.

Practice has shown that the Trickle copes well with this task. The peculiarity of the device of the pump Trickle is that there are no rotating parts in it. Therefore, it does not clog too quickly when working in contaminated water.

Periodically, the pump is removed, disassembled, washed, carry out the necessary repairs, and then reassemble and put into operation. Of course, with this treatment, the wear rate increases significantly. It is not surprising that in the process of pumping a well, a pump can completely fail.

To clean one well, depending on the situation, two or even three or four such units may be required. But for the money it comes out much cheaper than the purchase of special equipment with increased resistance to wear.

Inexperienced owners of the sites sometimes believe that it is possible to pump a well using the pump that will supply water to the water supply at home. This is an absolutely wrong decision.

Well and well owners periodically have to clean your facilities. In these cases, this type of pump is indispensable. It will effectively cope with the pumping of contaminated water from a well or well.

If the pump is at hand, all work will be done much faster. If the well is silty or sandy, the vibrations arising during the operation of the “Brook” turn from the enemy into a friend.

Disassembled Pump Brook
This is how the “Trickle” pump looks in disassembled form. The strong steel case reliably protects the device from external influences and frequent breakdowns

Quality and expensive submersible pumps usually designed for long-term work with clean water. It is better to pump plentifully polluted sand with the help of “Brook” or other budget equipment. If, after pumping a well, some “Brook” managed to “survive”, it will certainly find further application.

Vibrating action allows you to quickly and efficiently destroy the mud plug, clean the holes of the downhole filter and pump dirt to the surface. As a result, the flow rate of the well will increase markedly.

To clean silted wells, it is recommended to use a model with an upper water intake.

A trickle dusting in a shed will become a real find if the main pump in a well or well breaks for some reason. It will become a perfectly acceptable temporary replacement, allowing you to restore water supply in the house in a matter of hours. During the repair of the main pump, you will not have to purchase or rent new equipment.

Flooding with the drainage waters of a basement, a viewing hole in a garage or other similar depression is an unpleasant situation. And to scoop out unnecessary liquid with a bucket, it will take a lot of time and effort.

Since drainage water usually doesn’t contain so many contaminants, the Trickle pump is ideal for pumping it.

Vibration cleaner cleaning water intake
Inexpensive small-sized vibrators are used in cleaning water intake structures. They rock mud deposits at the bottom of wells and wells, which are then pumped out by drainage pumps.

It, of course, works slowly but stably. Of course, one should not expect perfect drainage from drainage waters. To improve the operation of the pump, it is recommended to use a special additional filter that protects the structure from contamination.

The filter is made in the form of a cap and is designed for the upper part of the pump. To put it on, it is recommended to warm this element up first. Then installing the filter will be much faster and easier.

If the house has a swimming pool or other capacious water tank, the Trickle pump can be used to pump water from such tanks. In this case, it makes sense to use a model “Brook-1M”. Unlike other models, it is equipped with a lower water intake, which allows you to completely remove water from the tank.

Pumps of the “Trickle” type are also used during the installation of heating systems, namely, for crimping, when filling the system with water is required. Water can be taken from the well or brought in a separate barrel.

Put a hose on the intake port of the pump and lower it into the water. The second hose, worn on the pump inlet, is connected to the open drain valve of the heating system.

Using a manometer, the pressure in the system is monitored. After crimping, the identified malfunctions are eliminated. In general, it can be said that “Trickle” pumps can be used to solve almost any task of pumping liquid or pumping it to its destination. The main requirement is that the water should not be too dirty.

Well Vibration Pump
The main advantage of the Trickle pump and similar models is the budget price. They do not mind “throwing” to perform “dirty work”. In case of failure, the device is simply replaced with a new

Modifications and similar models

There are three models of such a pump on the market: The trickle (production of Livhydromash OJSC, Russia), “Brook-1” and “Brook-1M” (production of Technopribor OJSC, Belarus).

They are very similar in design, but there are some differences. So, the model “Trickle-1” is equipped with an upper water intake system that allows you to get the most pure drinking water.

But at “Rucheyka-1M” a hole for water intake is located below. With this model, it is more convenient to pump out water from tanks that need to be emptied completely. Since in the models "Trickle" and "Trickle-1" water is taken from above, the design itself serves as reliable protection against overheating.

Water entering the pump housing cools the motor at the same time. During testing, it was confirmed that devices of this type can withstand dry running for seven hours. In this case, the motor windings do not burn.

Not all pumps, even more expensive and productive, can boast of such a level of stability. With a long running time of the pump without water, on many other models, the electric motor simply burns out.

Omnigena-Dorota Pump
The “Omnigena-Dorota” pump is a worthy analog of the “Brook”, developed and manufactured in Poland. High quality and good performance.

Among the similar "Brook" pumping equipment, one can not help but recall the pump "Kid". It is very close to the “Brook” in terms of technical characteristics, quality of workmanship and maintainability.

The Bavlensky plant “Electric Engine” and also the AEC “Dynamo” (Moscow) produce this equipment. Some indicators of “Baby” are slightly better, but the price is slightly higher than that of “Brook”

Among lesser-known counterparts, it is worth mentioning UNIPUMP OWNER - The Russian brand, which is made in China. A study of the technical characteristics of the unit shows that it is not much different from the more famous “Brook”.

The price characteristics of these pumps also almost coincide. The cost of the same pump may vary depending on the length of the cable.

An interesting alternative could be Omnigena-dorota - submersible vibration pump of Polish production. The principle of its operation and the device is not much different from the pump "Stream". Unless the aluminum casing is a little shorter, and the weight of the pump is a little less.

The power of the model is 300 W, and you can immerse it at 50 m. Reviews about the quality of the Polish pump are quite satisfactory.

Conclusions and useful video on the topic

Here you can see a practical example of the pump of this brand:

The video clip shows a diagram of the pump device, its technical parameters, and the features of using the “Brook” are indicated:

The “Brook” pump is a tireless hard worker and a faithful assistant for all owners of summer cottages and private plots.

Of course, its performance is not too great, and it is not intended to solve global cleaning tasks. But where you need to pump water or clean the well, "Trickle" may be the best option.

  1. Vyacheslav

A worthy heir to Soviet industry. Also noticed that many are using. If you compare inexpensive offers, then these are better, the "Chinese" burn for a year or two. There is a trick to prolonging the life of the pump - you can make something like a hard cap from the net at the hole for water intake. But not close. Then even if the rope “loosens” it will silt less and small pebbles will be weeded out. Well, the cord is better not to pair. It’s not such a difficulty to exchange a new one.

  2. I got the pump Brook along with the purchased cottage from the previous owner. One season he worked without any complaints, but in the second year, at first the stream became noticeably thinner. The work was accompanied by a louder buzz, and then he completely stopped pumping water. I began to watch what to replace it with, went around, chose, but in the end I just took the same Brook. It costs quite a penny, but it works fine.

  3. Vietor

I have already changed several pumps. They work reliably, but for some reason the case is strongly oxidized to holes. Holes were covered with “cold welding”, but they appeared in other places again. How to protect yourself from oxidation? Water is drawn from the well.

You have water problems in the well. It has an alkaline reaction, the aluminum alloy of the body reacts with the water of your well.

  4. Galina

Technopribor 1M brook bought, worked for 3 months. Stopped turning on - what's the reason?

Hello. I will assume that it has broken down 🙂 Seriously, more details are needed. For example, if there were any other problems during the operation, how it broke down - during work or after a period of rest, or if your water was suspiciously buzzing. In a good way, it is necessary to disassemble and diagnose the insides.
