  3. There must be a window that provides sufficient penetration of daylight to illuminate the entire kitchen.
  4. The window should open - at least with a window or for ventilation - for fresh air to replace what is burned with gas.
  5. Natural ventilation for the entire volume of the room - as a rule, the outlet is provided by the developer, and your business is not to close it and not to reduce it.

These norms are binding on the whole of Russia, other requirements are based on local legislation or on documents that are advisory in nature and are not binding.

The confusion arises from the insufficient coverage of this issue in federal documents - there is no single ban across Russia. SNiPs and GOSTs referenced by gas workers are canceled today in whole or in part, or are advisory rather than mandatory.

However, in some cities and regions, local authorities adopt regulations prohibiting such redevelopment. And now, first things first.

SP 62.13330.2011 (former SNiP 42-01-2002) and SP 42-101-2003 regulate the location of gas distribution to consumers - basically, general concepts that concern more developers than residents. For ordinary gas users, the 3rd section may be useful, where the requirements for a room with a gas stove, which we talked about above, are described: volume, height, a window with a window and ventilation.

Also curious Section 6.22 and 6.23 in SP 42-101-2003regulating the distance and wall decoration around the stove or boiler. They recommend leaving 6 - 7 cm to the wall not only from the back, but also from the side. At the same time, the wall coating should be fireproof or difficult to combust: roofing steel, plaster, ceramic tile, glass, etc.

But let us draw your attention: this is a recommendation, not a requirement, that is, it is not necessary to implement it.

Although these documents are the main ones in gas supply issues, there is no mention of the door to them, so let's move on.

Often, when checking gas workers, demanding to install a door, refer to SNiP 2.04.08-87. According to him, if the gas stove is installed in a personal corridor, there should be a window in it, and from the living area should be separated by a dense partition and a door.

Thus, this document does not require the installation of a door in the kitchen, but obliges you to firmly separate at least one room from the space with a gas stove.In addition, this document is not in the current list of existing GOSTs, joint ventures and SNiPs that are mandatory to ensure the safety of buildings. This means that the gas men have no right to demand anything from you, referring only to this document.

The rules for the use of gas in everyday life, approved back in 1990, have a similar meaning to clause 3.11, prohibiting sleeping and resting in a room with gas appliances - that is, the door should either be in the kitchen, or at least in one of the rooms, or better both.

In addition, this document prohibits the use of gas when the window is closed or ventilation problems, leave unattended appliances unattended, or redevelop the kitchen without proper design.

However, in the list of mandatory norms approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of December 26, 2014 and mentioned above, this document also does not. This means that at the moment it can also be of a recommendatory nature only.

As we have already mentioned, the absence of a ban on removing the kitchen door in federal, all-Russian documents does not mean that such a decision is permissible. Provisions for gasification of residential buildings can be adopted by the local government and act within the city or territory.

Fire safety instructions are created by a house management company, and therefore may differ even in neighboring buildings. Such provisions and instructions are often developed on the basis of outdated SNiPs described above, but, unlike them, are binding.

Given this situation, we, alas, will not be able to give a definite answer about the need for a kitchen door for every Russian - we will only tell about the situation in the capital.

According to Section 3.6, the gas pipeline inside the house should be in a non-residential premises. If there is no door to either the kitchen or the rooms, then the whole space is combined and is considered residential.

You may be denied approval of a new project, guided by local regulations, requiring you to leave the door. But there is always a way out - we will discuss options for solving such problems later.

Even if you live in a multi-story building with gas in each apartment, you have the right to refuse gasification, with the complete dismantling of all pipes, including the riser. At the same time, the better you buy a stove or hob, the less electricity you will use: modern induction panels are no more expensive than gas ones.

If you have made such a decision, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Take permission to switch to an electric stove in the management company - ZhEKe, for example. Perhaps they will require to stretch a new cable from the meter, capable of withstanding the stove, refrigerator, hood, electric kettle and other equipment that are simultaneously turned on.
  2. Contact the gas supplier with a statement on the dismantling of all gas equipment, attach copies of documents on the ownership of the apartment and passport. The application must be approved by the signature of the chief engineer.
  3. By prior arrangement, workers will come to you, cut the pipe, and if a riser passes through your kitchen, they will transfer it outside the apartment.

  1. We multiply the area by the height of the ceilings - we get the cubic capacity of the room.
